What Makes It An Anti-Cancer Recipe:
This smoothie bowl is built around ingredients that research has linked to anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, while keeping blood sugar impact low.
Blueberries
Blueberries are rich in anthocyanins —potent polyphenols that have been shown to support cellular protection and reduce oxidative stress. Diets high in berries are consistently associated with improved metabolic and inflammatory markers.
Cacao nibs
Cacao contains flavanols that may help reduce inflammation and support vascular health. Using cacao nibs instead of sweetened chocolate keeps sugar low while preserving antioxidant benefits.
Coconut (unsweetened)
Coconut provides fats that slow digestion and help blunt glucose spikes. Keeping the portion small adds texture without tipping the glycemic load.
Bee pollen
Bee pollen contains trace antioxidants, enzymes, and micronutrients that may support immune resilience. It’s used here as a light functional topping rather than a primary calorie source.
Plant-based protein
Adequate protein supports blood sugar stability and satiety—both critical pillars of cancer-conscious eating.

Why This Version Is More Cancer-Conscious
Most smoothie bowls lean heavily on bananas, dates, juices, or sweetened yogurts—often turning them into blood sugar bombs disguised as health food.
What we changed intentionally:
- Functional toppings instead of granola – No refined grains, no syrups, no sugar crashes.
- Half an avocado instead of a banana – Reduces total sugar and carbs while still contributing creaminess.
- Blueberries as the primary fruit – Giving a lower glycemic impact compared to tropical fruits and juice bases.
- Added Protein Powder – Protein slows carbohydrate absorption and supports metabolic balance.
- Unsweetened protein almond milk – Avoids hidden sugars found in many plant milks.
FAQ

The Glycemic Load Breakdown
Glycemic Load per serving: ~9
This smoothie bowl has a low glycemic load (0–10) per serving.
Low-GL meals help keep blood sugar steady, support metabolic health, and reduce inflammation — all important pillars in cancer-conscious eating.
How GL is calculated:
Glycemic Load = (Glycemic Index × grams of carbohydrates per serving) ÷ 100
The reduced banana portion, fibre-rich blueberries, and added protein all contribute to this lower impact.
